We recognise families of prisoners often need help accessing services that work for them and in developing strong supports and networks.
We help support prisoners achieve successful reintegration by working with them, their families and members of the community they plan on returning to.
The services provided by paid staff from Prisoners Aid are enhanced by a network of trained volunteers across New Zealand who add a valuable connection between the prison and the community.
PARS Canterbury (The Prisoner's Aid and Reintegration Society of Canterbury Incorporated) provides a free service on both sides of the prison wire. This enables us to support people who are or who have been in the criminal justice system, as well as to their whanau, with continuous care from first contact to release and beyond, including people who have been deported to New Zealand and choose to live in the Canterbury area.
We believe everyone benefits when prisoners and their family are in continued contact throughout a prison sentence. Contact us if you’re about to be sentenced or if you or a family member already is in the criminal justice system.
We have a small office in Papanui, Christchurch. Please call us on 03 371 9183 for an appointment.
